Iritis TreatmentIn the first instsance, iritis is generally treated with steroid and pupil dilating eyedrops. The steroid eydrops reduce inflammation and the pupil dilating eyedrops relax the iris muscle giving it a chance to heal and reduces the risk on scarring. The pupil dilating drops are also likely to make any pain more manageable. If a patient does not respond well to the above treatment steroid pills and injections may also be required. In cases where an underlying cause of iritis is discovered, treatment to manage the cause may be beneficial. For example, antibiotics may be prescribed for a bacterial infection. To help ease your symptoms at home, patients may find that dark glasses help when light sensitivity is an issue. Generic painkillers may also help relieve general discomfort. Self treatment at home however is not a substitute for treatment from an Ophthalmologist. |
