Many thanks to everyone who has contributed. Each case gives us a unique perspective of iritis and furthers our understanding of the condition.

I first became acquainted with iritis as a young teenager, I was probably about 15 years old when I was diagnosed. I suffered with blurry vision, light sensitivity and spotted vision. I was treated in hospital for about 2 weeks on a programme of steroids, antibiotics and various eyedrops.

I have had 3 recurring episodes since that first case 11 years ago. Each has been treated without having to be admitted to hospital.

I find that periods of high stress and anxiety trigger my iritis. I am lucky because athough it is an uncomfortable feeling when I get an attack, I don't suffer any pain.

The one and only time I developed Iritis was in the summer of 2005 (I would have been 24 at the time). The first thing I noticed was sensitivity to light, which I initially thought nothing of. However the next day the affected eye became extremely painful, bloodshot and the Iris was much smaller than the unaffected eye. I saw a doctor that day who diagnosed me with ‘anterior uveitis’ and I was prescribed with steroid drops and dilating drops which had to be used about every hour at first. The condition cleared up in about two weeks but treatment continued for a little longer to be sure it was completely sorted.

I have not developed Iritis again since…fingers crossed!

My first experience with iritis was the Spring of 1988, it was just there. Had a sharp pain in my left eye, the white was red in color, and could not handle any light whatsoever. I went to a(n) OD, considered it a regular infection, gave me drops. Didn't help, went back the next day, referred to a Specialist. Walked into the office, he know right away what it was. The dr. prescribed two different medicines (don't remember what they were). The first 48 hours, taken every 2 hours, afterwards then every 4, then 6 until healed. I do remember having a schedule to see the dr. to check the progress. The iritis cleared up, never had an issue since (thank god). My current OD for the last 8+ years is fully aware of this, he states that my eyes are very healthy and I take eye vitamins (hope this helps keep my eyes healthy).
